Question:  Should I put a decal on the hood of my car before or after I wax it?

Yes. You can do either without any problems, although there are some who advocate stripping the car down and waxing it first because then, when you want to remove the sticker, it is not going to have an area that looks different from the waxed area where the decal came from.

Question:    I purchased “brand X” wash and wax and need to know if there’ll be any problems if I apply vinyl decals to my car after I wash it or later when I wash over the decals?

This is a good question. I asked some of my colleagues in the business to see if my hunch was correct, because we have never worried about wash and wax products being used ahead of lettering or applying vinyl graphics to a clean vehicle,

Question: Will the rear window defroster affect the decal on the rear window?

It shouldn’t. Most rear car window decals on cars or trucks have an acrylic adhesive that should withstand temperature up to 180ºF (82ºC). Your rear window defroster, if functioning normally, is likely never to get near that temperature.

It isn’t probably going to do much good for it, but it depends on how much road grime and dirt is under your wipers. Over time, the wipers act like sandpaper in pushing grit over the decal repeatedly.

Question:  Will a decal harm the painted surfaces of my vehicle?

No. In fact, it provides a sunscreen to your vehicle’s paint, which is why we don’t advise you to put decals on your car’s painted surfaces unless they’re permanent.

If you put a bumper sticker on the painted surface of your trunk, for instance, and remove it 3 years later, the other paint on the vehicle may have faded somewhat, but the paint under the sticker will be a little newer looking and less faded.

Using stick figures, cartoons or special symbols, they can get your message across with very little trouble or effort. The designers know how to use a picture to tell a thousand words. Using psychological response, the right color combinations are also helpful in expressing a message for those who may only have a few seconds to read and absorb the message being shown.

An ingenious invention, car stickers can be posted on the windshield, from within or without. There are date graphics for the country of origin if you live in Europe. There are also reflective postal stamp-sized designs for cars to indicate when your registration expires at the DMV. These vehicle decals are small, but often contain concentrated information. They are relatively inexpensive to produce and yet do a very important job.

Another option is the poured polyurethane decal, also known as domed graphics. Domed stickers or labels are covered with a thick, clear-poured, polyurethane coating to create a decal with visual depth. Due to their flexibility they are very popular with electronic product manufacturers as well as with car dealers.

Now, just so you know, although I am the V.P. of sales and marketing for Visigraph, a company that prints these graphics, I personally don’t use them myself, so I understand people who don’t and I really don’t care if you do put them on your car or if you purchase them from me. Oh…I just remembered….my wife just put an “UPWARDS” decal on our van to support our son’s sports league. Doh!

Why People Need Car Decals Stickers and Labels on Their Vehicle Windows

I have not done a scientific study of socio-economic layers of society to determine what percentage of the population puts graphic displays on their vehicles.

They are a great way to advertise something you support or belong to. One from your school, for instance, shows that you support your school and are loyal to it. Your school, or your kid’s school, might have a sports team decal and you could put both on your car.
