How safe are wall decal stickers? What you need to know.

Question: Do wall stick-ons damage walls?

Do guns kill people? The only way wall stick-ons (more commonly called wall stickers or wall decals) will damage your wall is if you don’t follow the instructions for installing or removing them.

Basically, to prevent wall damage from wall decals, simply make sure your walls are freshly painted or de-greased before applying your wall decals, then, when you take them off, if needed, use a hair dryer or heat gun to help the glue to release cleanly from the wall.

1. It is easy depending on the type of wall paint.

Generally, Wall Stickers, including Dali Wall Decals, are easier to release from a wall surface than most other decals applied to other surfaces, especially if applied to flat latex paint.

However, if the vinyl has affixed itself firmly to the wall that is coated with a gloss latex paint or an oil-based enamel, then you may have to grab a hair dryer or heat gun and apply some heat to the vinyl.

Absolutely. However, do note that the thinner the material, the better the adhesion.

Two Types of Vinyl

There are two basic types of vinyl material that most wall stickers are comprised of. There are others, but for simplicity, we’ll talk about the most common.

The higher quality vinyl material is known as “cast” vinyl, and typically is 2mils thickness. Various companies such as 3M and Avery manufacture these films and sell them in rolls varying from 15” in width up to 60” in width.
